Your Body holds Wisdom. It Speaks in Sensations, Tightness, Aches and Ease.
Doing a Daily Body Scan is a Sacred Practice that reconnects you to your Physical Self, your Emotional Landscape and your Spiritual Alignment. It is an Act of Love, Protection and Presence.
When you Scan your Body each Day from Crown to Toes, you Learn where Energy is Blocked, where Healing is Needed and where Gratitude can Flow.
This Practice helps Detect Injuries before they worsen, Strengthens Self-Awareness and Builds a Relationship with your own Temple.
Just like Elders inspect their Tools, Weapons or Gathering Bags, we too must Examine the Sacred Tool that is our Body-with Care, Respect and Attention. You are a Living Ceremony. Your Body is the Drum, the Pipe, the Fire and the Smoke all in one.
“I Honour My Body and All It Carries.
I Scan My Sacred Vessel With Love, Not Judgment.
My Body is Wise and I Am Listening.”
In Native American Healing Ceremonies we begin by acknowledging the Body: offering Smoke to the Head, Heart, Hands, and Feet — as these are the main Carriers of Thought, Feeling, Action, and Direction. A Body Scan is a Personal Version of this Honouring — one you can do Daily with your own Hands and Awareness.
“Creator, Guide My Mind to Notice What Needs Healing.
Let Me Walk in Awareness, Not Avoidance.
Bless My Body with Your Medicine Each Day I Rise.”
Upon waking, or before bed, wash your Face, Hands and Feet with Warm Water and Gratitude, speaking aloud:
“May My Eyes See Truth.
May My Hands Heal Gently.
May My Feet Walk with Purpose.”
Lie or Sit Comfortably. Close your Eyes.
Bring your Attention to the Top of your Head, then slowly Scan Down through your Body.
Notice Any Pain, Tension, Warmth, Cold, or Emotion in Each Area.
Breathe into any Area that needs Love. Place your Hand there and say:
“I See You. I Hear You. I Love You.”
In Cree, the word “Nîkanâsowin” means “To Prepare or Take Care Ahead of Time.”
Journal Prompt
“What did I Learn from my Body today?
Is there Pain or Emotion I have been Ignoring?
How can I respond with more Care and Action tomorrow?”
