Your Body is a Sacred Temple, gifted to you by the Creator. The way you Cleanse, Touch and Care for it can be an Act of Prayer.
Natural Hygiene is not just about being Clean-it is about Honouring your Skin, Senses and Spirit with Gentle, Pure, Earth-Based Practices.
Modern soaps, shampoos, deodorants and lotions often contain Harsh Chemicals that disrupt the Skin’s Natural Barrier, interfere with Hormones, and invite Dis-ease. Switch to Natural Products made with Plants, Clays, Oils and Minerals that Align with your Body’s Health.
Indigenous Peoples around the world have always used Natural Materials like Clay, Ash, Birch Bark, Cedar and Sage Smoke to Cleanse and Bless the Body. These Rituals were often done before Ceremony, after a Journey or as part of Healing.
Let your Hygiene become Sacred:
Brush your Skin with a Dry Plant Fiber Brush before Bathing to stimulate the Lymphatic System.
Rinse your Body with Warm Water infused with Herbs like Lavender, Cedar or Mint.
Use Coconut Oil or Shea Butter to Moisturize your Skin and speak words of Love as you do.
Make your own Deodorant with Baking Soda and Essential Oils.
The more Gentle and Pure your daily practices, the more Peace you bring to your Nervous System, your Thoughts and your Spirit.
“I Care for My Body with Love and Respect.
Each Act of Hygiene is a Blessing.
I Release Harmful Chemicals and Embrace Nature’s Gifts.”
In many Native Traditions, Smoke Cleansing was a primary form of Hygiene. People would pass their Bodies through the Smoke of Sacred Plants like Sage, Sweetgrass, Cedar, or Tobacco to Purify the Spirit and Cleanse Emotional Energy. This was done before entering Sacred Spaces, after visiting the Sick, or to reset the Spirit after Emotional Turmoil.
“Creator, Bless the Waters that Wash Me.
Bless the Plants that Heal Me.
May I Walk in Purity, in Alignment with Nature,
And Treat My Body as the Sacred Gift it Is.”
Add Cedar, Mint, or Eucalyptus to a bowl of Warm Water.
Dip a Cloth into it and gently wipe your Face and Body.
As you do, whisper:
“This Water is Medicine.
This Touch is Healing.
I am Cleansed. I am Blessed.”
Replace one Commercial Product with a Natural One (Ex: Switch your soap to Olive Oil soap).
Create a Morning or Evening Hygiene Ritual with Music, Prayer or Silence.
Touch your Body with Presence and Gratitude as you Cleanse.
In Cree, the word for Clean/Pure is Nîpîy Mîyowîcihikan (ᓃᐱᔨᒥᔪᐃᒋᐦᑲᐣ) — "Water That Heals" or “Good Cleansing Water.”
Prompt:
“How do I treat my Body when no one is looking?
Which of my Hygiene habits are rooted in Love, and which in Shame?
What would it look like to create a Sacred Hygiene Ritual that nourishes my Spirit every day?”
